Every tutor is vetted before they teach
No one teaches on Trellis until they have cleared every required step below. If a tutor fails any one of them, they are not approved.
- Government-ID identity verification. We confirm the tutor is who they say they are against their national ID.
- Police clearance (optional). A criminal-record check through the national police service. Tutors may provide one, and we request it where a case warrants it.
- Two referee checks. We speak to two people who can vouch for the tutor’s character and teaching.
- A subject competency assessment. We test that they actually know the subject and level they want to teach.
- A demo lesson. We watch them teach before any child does.
Online lessons with under-18s are recorded
Any online session involving a child is recorded by default. The recording is available to you, the parent, and to our admins. It is retained under a stated policy and is never shared with other students.
What we ask of every tutor
Tutors accept our policies before they are approved: a safeguarding standard, consent for recording where a minor is involved, and a rule against taking lessons off the platform. Contact details are masked until an engagement is confirmed.
If something is wrong, tell us
If you ever have a concern about a tutor or a lesson, contact a Learning Advisor immediately. We investigate every report, and a tutor who breaches our standards is removed from the platform.
